Citi Benefits Handbook
Withholding on Hardship Withdrawals
If you receive a financial hardship withdrawal, you can elect whether to have federal income tax withheld from your payment at 10% of the amount withdrawn or, if you choose, at a greater amount, by visiting the Plan's website accessible through My Total Compensation and Benefits at www.totalcomponline.com or calling the Plan as instructed under "How to Contact the Plan." If you do not make an election, 10% federal income tax will be withheld automatically.
Regardless of the amount of federal income tax withheld, you may owe additional taxes on the hardship withdrawal. You also may be subject to the 10% premature withdrawal penalty tax. See "Penalty Tax for Early Distribution" for more information. You are responsible for paying any federal taxes associated with the withdrawal, and any applicable state and local taxes.
